A few thoughts for the day...

I haven't watched the news in a few days now, so I was just wondering if the MSM has taken a break from their wall-to-wall gloating over the Obama victory to comment on the Dow dropping 900+ points since the election.  Had a Republican won, they would have gotten blamed for it.

One of my co-workers made this observation:  Why is it that when a Republican gets elected President that the MSM does all this talk about "now they will have to get along with the Democrats?"  When a Democrat gets elected, nobody cares whether or not they get along with the Republicans.

Still bummed about the election.  At least we still have talk radio to help me keep my sanity ... that is, until the Dems take that away, too.

This is how liberty dies...

"So this is how liberty dies...with thunderous applause."
Padme Amidala in Star Wars Episode 3, Revenge of the Sith

After seeing the celebration after yesterday's election, I couldn't help thinking of the scene from the sixth (third?) Star Wars movie.  In the name of security, the people turn over their freedom to an emporer.  Do they realize what they've done?

Do we Americans realize what we've done?

How can anyone say that they don't know Obama?  After all, he really hasn't tried to hide who he is:
  • Silencing TV stations and reporters who dare ask the wrong questions
  • Promising to bankrupt the coal industry (What do you think that will do to your electric bill?)
  • Taxing working Americans to "spread the wealth"
  • Expanding the power of the courts beyond what the Constitution gives them and our founding fathers intended
  • Silencing the voice of the loyal opposition in the name of "fairness"
This doesn't look like what the leader of a free people does.

Why I Supported McCain

Much has been said about how conservatives are motivated not so much to get their candidate to win as to stop the other candidate from winning.  I can't speak for everyone, but as for me, when I cast my vote yesterday, it was a vote for John McCain and not simply a vote against Barack Obama.

I will say up front that I didn't support McCain in the primaries.  I had questioned his votes on many issues in the Senate.  There were times when I thought that maybe he was on the wrong side of the aisle.  It wasn't until the convention that I began to look at McCain in a different light.  Hearing the stories of his service and his time as a POW showed me his dedication to and love of America.  I saw him as motivated not by what he thought was politically expedient, but by what he really believed was best for the nation.  You might not always agree with him, but his actions were consistent with his beliefs.  His selection of Sarah Palin was a brilliant choice.  As a reformer and a genuine conservative she proved to be a great asset to the McCain campaign.  I pray that she will be the Republican nominee in 2012.

John McCain is a true patriot who loves his country.  I was really looking forward to seeing what he would do as President, but hope that he will continue to have a distinguished career in the Senate.
